OCD Clinic

Services provided in the clinic

OCD clinic services are available on all Tuesdays between 9.00 AM to 1.00PM. On outpatient basis, following services are offered:

  • Detailed evaluation
  • Psychoeducation about the illness
  • Medication therapy
  • Outpatient behavior therapy, if indicated

In-patient therapy may be suggested for resistant OCD, where intensive behavior therapy will be provided. The patient may need to stay in the hospital with a family member for around 4-8 weeks for in-patient behavior therapy. For resistant OCD, other services available include repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and neurosurgery, which are provided for selected patients if they are indicated.

Who will benefit?

In the OCD clinic, we provide treatment for patients suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related mental health problems. Other mental health problems related to OCD include body dysmorphic disorder (abnormal preoccupation with perceived defect in one’s appearance), trichotillomania (repeated impulses to pull one’s own hair), skin picking disorder (repeated impulses to pick skin), hypochondriasis (excessive preoccupation or worry about having a serious illness), tic disorders (sudden, repetitive, difficult to control movements or sounds), olfactory reference syndrome (excessive fear or persistent belief that one is emitting a foul or unpleasant odor). If you suspect that you have symptoms of the above mentioned problems or have been diagnosed with any of these disorders, you can avail services of the clinic.

How does one get an appointment?

It is a walk-in clinic. No prior appointment or referral is required. If you have been earlier diagnosed with OCD or suspect that you have symptoms suggestive of OCD, you can come to the OCD clinic between 8.00 am and 11.00 am and directly register in the clinic after consulting with the senior resident / consultant of the clinic. It is advisable to register before 9 AM so that there is enough time for detailed evaluation. You may also be referred to the clinic from the psychiatry OPD for expert opinion on OCD related problems.

The clinic is busy and you must be prepared to wait for your turn. Please note that your initial assessment will be carried out by a junior resident or a mental health professional before you meet the consultant of the clinic. This is the standard procedure of the clinic. Detailed evaluation may take up to 2-3 hours. Please bring details of the previous consultations and treatment and all other relevant medical records including reports of all the investigations. If detailed evaluation is not feasible on the same day, you will be evaluated briefly and an appointment will be given for detailed evaluation for a later date.
